Cause Awarness Ribbons

Every year I support Breast Cancer Awarness Month by participating in the Susan G Koman race for a cure and also by doing other volunteer work.

Let me say, I am not being negative or selfish at all, I just want to make a point......

I'm so thankful for all the attention October gets for being "Pink" month, but what about all the other causes and awareness for diseases.

I specfically want to point out my brothers disease.
He has a form of Muscular Distrophy.
His particular diagnoses is Mitochondrial Myopathy.
Which I often wear my ribbon and also my wrist band to represent.
This particular ribbon also represents.......

I am a very big advocate of stem cell research and donation as my dad had one before he passed; thanks for the post. These are all worthy causes that need to be acknowledged more.

I just stumbled across your blog and had never seen it before. However, as the mother of a little boy with mitochondrial disease and the daughter of a woman fighting lung cancer, I couldn't agree more! Yes, breast cancer awareness is important in many ways. However, every time I see pink in honor of women with breast cancer, I can't help but think of my Mom who has been fighting a brave battle against lung cancer for two years or my son, who has a battle against mitochondrial disease for the rest of his life. And there are all of the others causes too...they are equally important. If anything, the pink ribbons should remind all of us to spread awareness about all of these tragic diseases and conditions that affect our loved ones. None of them should be forgotten.
